Man wanting to be a hero opens fire on Walgreen shoplifters

CHANDLER, AZ - A man who witnessed a robbery and tried to "be a hero" was arrested by police after pointing and firing a firearm at the suspects.

According to court paperwork, back in March 25-year-old John Haag was at a Walgreens near Dobson and Warner roads in Chandler when he witnessed someone run from the store. Haag asked the employees if they had just been robbed and they said they had been.

That's when Haag ran from the store, got in a vehicle and located the suspects inside a U-Haul cargo van. In video that was shared with ABC15, a man pulled up to the U-Haul and fired a gun once. Paperwork said that Haag went up to the passenger side of the U-Haul, pointed his firearm and discharged it. The U-Haul was not struck. Haag then drove away.

Officials said a misdemeanor shoplifting had occurred at the Walgreens, and "this crime would not justify the level of forced" used by Haag, according to paperwork.

Harsh Justice inmates are nonviolent victims of our inhumane, racially-biased, various versions of so-called justice.

Many have already served decades and will ultimately die in prison for nonviolent petty crimes resulting from poverty and addiction.

Some inmates are innocent but were afraid to go to trial where the deck is often stacked against them and the sentences are tripled on the average.

Most inmates first heard of 3 strikes at their sentencing hearing.

Most have a good chance now for freedom if they could receive capable legal representation for the first time ever.

To make make a secure, direct

contribution to an inmate's legal fund, select his or her story page

and follow the instructions located there. Your selected inmate receives 100% of your direct donation.

Harsh Justice is pleased to announce that 12 of our inmates have gained their freedom since 2016, 11 were serving life without parole sentences.
