Bernie fares much better.
The gap between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton is narrowing, according to a new poll out Tuesday.
An NBC News/Survey Monkey poll showed the presumptive Republican nominee just 3 percentage points behind Clinton — 45% to her 48%. Earlier this month, there was a 5-point gap between the two candidates. (Clinton had 49% and Trump had 44%.) Clinton has a 5.7-point lead over Trump in RealClearPolitics' polling average.
But for both candidates, likability remains an issue. Fifty-nine percent of those surveyed had an unfavorable view of Clinton and 62% had an unfavorable view of Trump — whereas Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders had an unfavorable rating of 43%.
Sanders also did the best in a general election matchup, though he is unlikely to be the Democratic nominee because he is drastically behind Clinton in delegates. The Vermont senator led Trump in a general election matchup 53% to 41%. Trump has gained 1 point since early May, when it was 53% to 40%.
