Dale Green earns $10 as entrapped middleman in $20 marijuana sale. Gets life without parole

An undercover agent was driving around, when he saw Green on the side of the road and stopped. He asked Green to take him where he could buy some weed.

Green agreed and eventually found a young man to sell the agent a bag of marijuana worth $20. The agent paid Green $10 for his assistance. The agent’s vehicle was equipped with surveillance equipment, but the audio did not work and the video did not verify the sale of marijuana.

Green was nevertheless convicted of distribution of marijuana and sentenced to mandatory life without parole as a third-strike offender under Louisiana’s multiple offender law. According to Green, when he pleaded guilty to prior offenses, he was never informed that these convictions could be used under the multiple offender law if he committed subsequent offenses.

Green had no lawyer to represent him on appeal, and he unsuccessfully tried to raise the claims that he had been entrapped and that there was insufficient evidence to convict him.

Many of the long serving inmates have no one left to support them. You can help by sharing their stories and asking others to do the same. Sign up to become an advocate for an inmate.

As voters, citizens, taxpayers and bystanders, we as a society have inhumanely punished thousands of nonviolent people. Currently Washington DC and 30 states have compensation statutes for wrongfully convicted inmates. Congress’ recommended amount is $63,000 for each year served. On the other hand, overly sentenced victims who in many cases have suffered equally or worse typically receive $20 and a bus ticket if they are fortunate enough to ever be released.

Most of these inhumanely sentenced inmates don't remember the last time they were able to buy personal items or snacks from the commissary. No donation is too small. JPAY is used for state inmates and Western Union for federal.

No Harsh Justice inmate has ever been convicted of a violent crime.

Harsh Justice inmates are nonviolent victims of our inhumane, racially-biased, various versions of so-called justice.

Many have already served decades and will ultimately die in prison for nonviolent petty crimes resulting from poverty and addiction.

Some inmates are innocent but were afraid to go to trial where the deck is often stacked against them and the sentences are tripled on the average.

Most inmates first heard of 3 strikes at their sentencing hearing.

Most have a good chance now for freedom if they could receive capable legal representation for the first time ever.

To make make a secure, direct

contribution to an inmate's legal fund, select his or her story page

Harsh Justice is pleased to announce that 12 of our inmates have gained their freedom since 2016, 11 were serving life without parole sentences.
